Thanks to the staff!

This is not only a review but also a thank you to the entire staff of Cheaha Animal Hospital. On June 21st i brought my 10 year old German Shepherd Harley (former champion show dog/now retired) to the office to be checked due to after she had lost her full winter coat i noticed her belly area was very large and stuck out more on her left side. During the winter months we thought she had put on extra pounds due to she was not spending much time outside due to the weather and her age. Her winter coat did not show us what was hiding beneath all that hair. Dr. Wyatt came into the room and began a full checkup on her. He was aware of her previous background medical conditions due to their excellent record keeping. After the physical exam he stated he had a 99% idea of what the problem was but needed an x-ray to confirm it. An x-ray was taken and the doctor called me back to look at it. He was very detailed in the explanation of what he saw. In short Harley had a tumor growing from her spleen. He said it looked to be approx 12 to 15 pounds in size but could not guarantee it. Dr. Wyatt then asked me to go back with him into the exam room to go over my options. He looked at me and saw the concern in my eyes and face. I knew in my heart this was not going to be good. I am grateful that when he explained my options and what the outcome could be he did not sugar coat it and spoke in terms that i could understand. In short, if she did not have surgery asap the tumor could rupture and she would suffer and die. With the removal of it there was a great possibility that she could bleed out on the operating table. He then asked me if I had any questions and answered the ones I had. After about 10 minutes of phone calls and thought to make the decision I told Dr. Wyatt that we were going to do the surgery. Before i left he kindly and gently reminded me once again that the odds were not in her favor but love, faith and the power of prayer were on her side. At 7 pm I received a call from him informing me that she had survived the operation but we were not out of the woods yet. The next 48 hours were critical due to blood loss. During the next 48 hours i received calls from the doctor and staff giving me updates. When I went to visit the entire staff were so kind and loving that I knew my baby girl could not have been in better hands. On 6/24/10 I was able to bring Harley home. We are still a bit touch an go but she feels so much better..I did much research on this condition. The tumor weighed 22 lbs and consumed almost 70% of her blood. In my research she only had a 20% chance of survival. I believe that without Dr. Wyatt, his wonderful professional staff, and prayer that we would have lost our best friend. My heartfelt thanks to you all at Cheaha Animal Hospital.
